The Japan Guide Dog Centre (AKA Fuji Harness) was established in October 2006 as the third training centre of the Japan Guide Dog Association. Its unique design blends in with the rich natural landscape located at the foot of Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, and has become familiar to many citizens. In addition to training guide dogs, the Center also has many characteristics, such as "promoting the awareness of guide dogs and the vision-impaired," "a base for puppy whelping," and "care home for retired dogs," and operating its business with the support of everyone.

In this article, we will introduce the kennel functions hidden in the beautiful design. The corridors meander like a twist, gently ascending to Mt. Fuji and the scattered kennel structures, and the external space connecting the gaps between each building is adjacent to the free runs required for different wards. The overall structure, based on straight lines, makes it easy for the vision-impaired to identify their orientation.

The kennel includes a whelping ward, a puppy ward, a training dog ward, and a retired dog ward, and the branching building structure connected by a corridor is not only a visual design but also adds to a functional meaning. This functional design minimises the spread of contagious diseases and prioritises the protection of puppies and older dogs with low immunity levels. You can observe the activities of dogs in other wings even from a distance due to the many glazed structures. Fuji Harness has also aged with our staff and welcomes everyone with its serene atmosphere.
